What is anxiety?

Anxiety is an extraordinarily broad term that describes a feeling of anxiousness or fear, which everyone experiences every now and then. An anxiety disorder is a different animal entirely, however, and can have a life-altering effect on both adults and children.

The hallmark of an anxiety disorder is an excessive, and often irrational, feeling of fear that interferes with your ability to function normally.

Anxiety presents itself in a number of different ways, including:

  • Separation anxiety
  • Social anxiety
  • Phobias
  • Panic disorders
  • Generalized anxiety
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorders
  • Hoarding
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Body image issues

What are the symptoms of anxiety?

Whatever form your anxiety takes, the overriding feeling is somewhat the same across the board: Excessive fear or worry that triggers muscle tension and a flight response.

Outside of the overwhelming fear and concern, other signs of anxiety disorder include:

  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Sweating
  • Avoidance and isolation
  • Panic attacks
  • Dizziness
  • Depression
  • A feeling of loss of control
  • The inability to move or exercise
  • Poor sleep patterns

In moderate to severe cases, anxiety disorders cause a major upset in your ability to perform even the simplest of tasks, making living with anxiety an almost impossible endeavor.

How is anxiety treated?

If you’ve tried medications, as well as behavioral therapies, and your anxiety still controls your life in untenable ways, ketamine infusion therapy may provide the solution you need to restore your life to normalcy.

During your ketamine treatments, Dr. Henry Liang in Las Vegas & Dr. Devin Tang in Upland delivers low doses of the medication in a controlled and monitored environment. As anesthesiologists, they understand better than most how ketamine works in the human body because the drug is used as an anesthetic in the operating room.

With six low-dose infusions over two weeks, studies have shown that ketamine quickly creates new neural connections in your brain and essentially rewires the pathways to restore normal function. With severe anxiety, these connections are lost and ketamine works to quickly restore them, giving you rapid relief of your symptoms.

If you’d like to find relief from the constant storm of treatment-resistant anxiety, call Klarity Clinic for a consultation.
